a girl playing a game console

Which activities make you lose track of time?

There are certain activities that make time disappear. You sit down for just a minute and suddenly it’s been hours. For me, that activity was playing The Sims 4.

If you know me well, you already know—I’m a Sims girly through and through. I’ve spent more time than I’d like to admit designing houses, crafting storylines, and managing every detail of my little Sims’ pixel-perfect lives. It was my comfort zone, my go-to way to decompress after a long day.

I had so many Sims 4 expansion packs downloaded that the game took up a huge chunk of my computer’s storage. Eventually, it got to a point where I had to make a decision.

Do I want to keep living a fake life… or invest in my real one?

And well, I chose the latter.

I deleted the game. Not because I stopped loving it—but because I wanted to create something that gave back to my actual life. I wanted to spend less time zoning out and more time leaning in.

That’s when I turned back to blogging.

Writing has always been one of those outlets that grounds me. It lets me think through my own experiences, express myself, and feel like I’m contributing something real. While playing The Sims offered comfort and control, it didn’t leave me with anything lasting—just time passed and a few cute screenshots.

But don’t get me wrong: there was comfort in being able to zone out of real life. Sometimes, that escape is necessary. And if I had more space on my laptop, I’d probably redownload it. No shame.

Because we all need that thing—whether it’s a game, a show, or a hobby—that helps us check out for a bit. But lately, I’m learning that creating, reflecting, and connecting (even through a blog post like this) fills me up in a different way.

What’s one thing you get totally lost in—like “how is it already 2am?” lost in? I’d love to hear what pulls you in.
