Describe one of your favorite moments.

Why Is It So Hard to Answer Simple Questions?

When someone asks, “What’s your favorite childhood memory?” I freeze up a little.

It’s strange how hard it is to answer. I always feel like there’s a right or wrong choice — like someone might judge me based on the moment I share. Maybe they’ll think it’s boring, or dismiss me entirely.

But I’m learning to let that go.

That’s part of why I write — not just to create, but to connect. To stop analyzing every thought and just be. To find peace in being seen as I am. And this memory I’m about to share? It may not sound like much… but it’s stayed with me all this time.

A Quiet Favorite Childhood Memory

We were having a yard sale. I don’t remember exactly how old I was — just old enough to count money and be trusted to help. The day had been long and a little chaotic, filled with people coming and going, bartering over old toys and books.

When everything was packed away and the driveway cleared, I sat down in a chair.

And then… I did nothing.

No big moment. Just stillness.

The sun was warm but soft, and a light breeze moved through the air like a whisper. I closed my eyes and let the quiet wrap around me. I felt calm. Warm. Completely at ease.

And at some point — I must have fallen asleep.

I woke up a while later, still in that chair, the sun lower in the sky. The world was quieter, slower. My body felt rested, like it had fully let go. It was one of the most peaceful moments I can remember.

Oddly enough, that quiet afternoon became one of my favorite childhood memories.

Why That Simple Moment Mattered

Not every meaningful memory is loud or exciting. Some of the most powerful ones are tucked away in the softest pauses — the ones that remind us what it feels like to just be.

This memory reminds me that peace doesn’t always come from doing something extraordinary. Sometimes, it comes when everything stops.

So if your favorite childhood memory isn’t bursting with excitement — that’s okay. The quiet ones matter too.
