Let’s be real — my ideal version of unwinding? It involves complete disconnection. No responsibilities, no talking, no noise. Just me, my phone, maybe a snack, and a scroll session that doesn’t get interrupted every 37 seconds. Bliss.

But in real life? I’m a mom to a four-year-old. I have a partner. I have a full plate and about ten tabs open in my brain at all times. So that dreamy vision of self-care? It’s more of a “someday” than a nightly reality.

Still, I do what I can. Some nights, unwinding looks like a hot shower — the kind where I let the steam melt the day off me and pretend I’m not going to hear “Mommmm?” through the door. Sometimes, I sneak in a few scrolls before bed, reclaiming a tiny slice of the night just for me.

It’s not always pretty or peaceful. But it’s real.

Unwinding as a mom isn’t about perfection — it’s about carving out anything that feels like yours, even if it’s just five quiet minutes in the shower. Because sometimes, that is the self-care.

Because even small moments of peace still count as rest.
What’s your version of unwinding after a long day — messy, quiet, or somewhere in between?
